Founded in 2020, Essex Bouqcakes is a luxury cake brand specialising in handcrafted floral cupcake bouquets and bespoke buttercream creations. Every design is thoughtfully made using premium ingredients, combining artistic detail with exceptional flavour to create memorable centrepieces for any occasion.
HOW IT BEGAN
I’m Zainab, the founder of Essex Bouqcakes and the person behind every order. My interest in baking began early — I was always drawn to the kitchen, whether it was helping out at home, watching cooking shows, or experimenting with new recipes when I should have been studying.
Over time, that interest turned into something more intentional. I explored everything from fairy cakes to pavlovas to baumkuchen, but it was working with buttercream and creating floral designs that truly sparked something different. Essex Bouqcakes was born from that passion — a way to combine creativity with craft, and to offer something thoughtful and memorable through cake.
It means a lot to know that something I’ve created can be part of someone’s special moment — it’s what keeps me inspired to do what I love.
After completing my master’s in economics just before the pandemic, I unexpectedly found myself immersed in baking. What began as a creative outlet during lockdown soon became something much more. Free to experiment with the endless recipes in my baking books, I discovered a passion that combined both artistry and flavour.
Though my journey from spreadsheets to sponge was unconventional, my academic background has been instrumental in shaping Essex Bouqcakes into a growing business. With florists closed and events on pause, the idea to replicate flowers in buttercream came naturally — and with it, a new way to bring beauty and joy to people through cake. In just a year, I taught myself to recreate an array of floral designs, from daisies to wildflowers and beyond. Essex Bouqcakes continues to grow with each passing day, and I feel incredibly lucky to have turned a hobby into a career I love. Every order helps me continue doing what I’m passionate about — and I’m excited to see how far this journey can go.
